Account security.

Account security includes both protecting access and being able to recover it. A mailbox may hold personal correspondence, work records, and messages used to manage other accounts. Think about who can sign in, which devices remain connected, where recovery material is kept, and what happens when a phone or administrator is unavailable.

This collection applies those questions to everyday setup and shared work. The mailbox setup checklist includes the checks that belong at the beginning of an account’s life. The business email overview adds individual roles, administrative responsibilities, and continuity when more than one person depends on the service.

Review actual controls in your provider’s current documentation and verify how your chosen access methods use them. Keep recovery information somewhere appropriate outside the mailbox it may need to restore. For organizations, make access changes part of joining, role changes, and departures, with clear ownership of both permissions and shared correspondence.

Where to begin

Begin with an access-loss scenario: your usual phone or computer is unavailable and you need the mailbox urgently. Identify the documented recovery route and the information it requires. Once that path is understood, review active devices, additional authentication, shared permissions, and who is responsible for keeping those details current.
